The Workshop (April 2016 - present)
Throughout my life my dad's sheds and garages have been a source of feelings of attachment and love for me. I have many memories of creative experiences and shared bonding which bring me huge joy and comfort.
My dad's current workshop has emerged from tumbled down barns which were just about standing when my parents took over a small piece of land. Almost single-handedly, my dad has mended, built, restored and created a sanctuary for himself which provides for my parents and others. I can walk into his space and immediately see his personality and feel his presence in all of the 'things' which are around whether ordered, scattered, chaotic; in use, ready for use or with potential for use.
And so, it was natural for me to photograph and document the many areas in and around ‘The Workshop’; the tools, the projects, the hobbies, the plans. To document the history of the person who has built our family with tools passed down from his father and his father's workshop before.
Many memories and the potential for many more are stored here.
The self-imposed rules for this project were simply that no objects could be moved or repositioned and that only the available natural light could be used; thus creating an honest reflection of the person and their space.
